Description

This building, known as Nos 9 and 10, is a Grade II listed farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and late 20th centuries. The exterior is roughcast over rubble, featuring a brick porch and a slate roof. There is an external stack on the right gable end with a projection for a bread oven and a brick chimney, along with a roughcast stack located between the first and second bays on the left. A large lateral stack is positioned to the right of the entrance.

The building has an L-plan layout, possibly consisting of three cells and a cross passage, with a southeast wing set into a steep bank facing west. It stands two storeys high with irregular fenestration, displaying a five-window facade. Most of the windows on the first floor are early 19th century three-light leaded casements, while the end bay on the left is unlit. There are two windows and a small glazed opening to the left of the stack, and two windows on the right. On the ground floor, there are two windows to the left of the gabled porch, which has a two-light window, and another two-light window beyond the stack. A double flight of lateral stairs leads to the two entrances, with retaining walls that ramp down.

The interior, which was partially visible, features steeply chamfered beams with step and run-out stops in the south end, as well as evidence of a jointed cruck truss roof. The building was formerly known as Chilcots Farmhouse.
