Description
No 19 is a cottage that likely dates from the early 18th century, with changes made in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is rendered over cob and features a thatched roof that is hipped to the east. An external stack rises from the west gable end at the center of the north front. The cottage has an L-plan layout with three main cells and a single-cell addition to the southwest. It is one and a half storeys tall, with the north front facing the road. This side has one two-light window to the right of the stack on the west gable end, and two-light casements flanking the external stack on both floors. Access is through a single-storey, single-bay addition from the 20th century. Inside, there is a cob dividing wall between the two western rooms, and a stud and wattle partition leading to a store room at the east end. The center room features a chamfered lateral beam with step and run-out stops, along with a renewed lintel and a staircase that rises against the north wall. The roof is supported by a collar beam. It is possible that this cottage was originally a single-cell structure that was later enlarged to include two additional rooms to the east.
