Description
No. 3 Crowden Road is a cottage dating from the late 17th century. It features rendered cob walls and a thatched roof, which is gabled on the left side and hipped on the right. The building has two brick stacks, one at the left gable end and one along the ridge. The plan consists of two rooms, both heated by the end stacks, with a likely integral outbuilding at the right-hand end.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has four windows. These are later 20th-century wooden casements with two lights and no glazing bars, set in small openings. There is a part-glazed door to the left of centre and a plank door leading to the outbuilding on the right.
Inside, the fireplace in the right-hand room has been blocked, but the original chamfered and stopped wooden lintel remains visible. The ceiling joists are insubstantial and also feature chamfers with run-out stops. The roof has rough pegged A-frame trusses that date from the 18th or 19th century.
