Description
No. 2 High Street is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, featuring small dairy or pantry extensions at both the north and south ends. The building is timber framed, rendered, and has a long straw thatched roof with a half-hipped design. A red brick ridge stack is present. The cottage has a two-bay and lobby entry plan and is one storey with an attic. There are two casement windows on either side of the doorway to the lobby, one of which includes an 18th-century shafted mullion. At the rear, there is a late 20th-century wing.
Inside, the cottage features red brick inglenooks, one of which has a later bread oven that partially projects from the west wall. The ceiling consists of parallel main beams, and the exposed wall frame has downward bracing with plain heads to the main posts. The tie beam of the central truss is tied to the chimney brickwork, and there is a stop-chamfered lintel above the inglenook.
