Description
31 and 33 High Street are a pair of cottages dating from the early 19th century. They are timber framed, plaster rendered, and topped with long straw thatch, featuring a shared ridge stack. The cottages form a single range with a four-bay plan and were extended by one bay to the southwest in the late 20th century.
The buildings are two storeys high, with four small casement windows on the first floor. No. 33 has a shared drip mould over its original doorway, which contains a boarded door and a horizontal sliding sash window to the left, with another horizontal sliding sash to the right. The doorway of No. 31 has been blocked but still retains its drip mould and two horizontal sliding sash windows.
Inside No. 31, there is a small early 19th-century brick hearth, similar to those found in No. 10 Challis Green, No. 22 High Street, and No. 18 High Street. The interior also features slender tie beams and an exposed wall plate.
