Description

A pair of charity cottages built in 1834 in Barrington, located on the south side of the High Street. They were originally listed as a cottage situated 70 yards south of the Chapel. The cottages are timber-framed with plaster render and a long straw thatched roof, featuring a shared ridge stack. The buildings are one storey high with an attic. Number 41 retains its original flush frame horizontal sliding sash window and a doorway with a boarded door. Number 43 has a more modern door and window, inserted into the original openings. The cottages have been enlarged at the rear. They were constructed by the Trustees of the Town Estate Charity, a charitable foundation established in the early 16th century. The buildings are documented in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments for West Cambridgeshire and the Victoria County History for Cambridgeshire.
