Description
No. 11 High Street is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with a slightly later bay added to the road end. It features a timber frame that is plaster rendered, topped with a steeply pitched roof of interlocking tiles, which was originally thatched. The ridge stack has been rendered. The building has a single range plan with a gable end facing the road, and it stands one storey high with attics, including one dormer. The original entrance is located in the centre bay and features an 18th-century panelled door. The windows consist of small pane casements and horizontal sliding sashes.
Inside, there is an inglenook hearth with spice and salt cupboards, as well as a smaller hearth that was likely added in the 19th or 20th century when the cottage was subdivided. The timber framing is exposed, revealing many uncarpentered timbers of varied scantling, and the main posts have jowled heads. In the bedrooms, the original torched plaster work can be seen on the soffit of the rafters.
