Description
No 1 North Street is a cottage, likely built in the early 18th century, with additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It features plastered cob walls and a gable-ended thatch roof, along with a brick stack at the gable end. The cottage has a one-room plan that may have originally extended into the adjacent house on its right. A 19th-century rear outshot has been added, as well as a small 20th-century addition on the left end.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has one window, featuring late 19th or early 20th century three-light casements. To the right, there is a 19th-century gabled porch with decorative ridge-tiles, and behind it, a 19th-century plank door.
While modest in itself, this cottage is significant due to its location as the first home seen on the road into the village, contributing to the unspoilt atmosphere of Sheepwash.
