Description
The range of farm buildings on the north side of the courtyard at Gilclose dates from the early to mid-19th century. It consists of a linhay, a bank barn over a byre, a loft over stables, and a shelter shed. The buildings are constructed from random rubble local stone and feature slate roofs, arranged in an L-plan that forms a foldyard with the former farmhouse to the south. The linhay has three bays supported by wooden piers with curved struts that create arch heads. This structure adjoins the bank barn, which has double doors over the byre and two semi-circular headed openings. The northeast corner is concealed by the loft over the stables, which abuts at right angles. Additionally, there is a three-bay shelter shed that connects with similar curved struts forming arched openings. This group of 19th-century farm buildings is notable for its architectural character.
