Description
Nos. 81 and 83 North Street is a house that likely dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It has a rendered front and a stone rubble rear, with the top storey on both sides covered in weatherboarding, probably replacing the original wool loft. The building features a slated roof, a rendered chimney on the right gable end, and a stone rubble chimney on the rear wall to the left. It is double-fronted with a store room at the right-hand end, and the entire structure is wedge-shaped to align with the River Ashburn behind it. The house has three storeys, while the store is single-storeyed. There are two widely spaced windows with a central doorway. The door is from the 20th century, and the windows are casement style. The store has an old plank door with a strap hinge and a twisted iron catch.
