Description
Nos. 1 and 3 Stockwell Street is a house that has been converted into a pair of shops. It likely dates from the early 17th century, with later modifications. The building is constructed from roughly coursed and squared rubble and features a blue plain-tiled roof.
The exterior consists of two storeys with a later attic added, which has a gambrel roof from the late 19th or early 20th century. The ground floor has inserted shop fronts with a high fascia, probably dating to the early 20th century. The upper windows are casements with 1, 2, and 4 lights, which have been renewed in their original openings and are framed with plain chamfered stonework. There are three shallow pedimented dormer windows in the roof. The end wall and axial brick stacks are also present. The gable wall clearly shows the line of the original roof structure, indicating it was raised in height to incorporate the attics. The interior has not been inspected.
