Description

This lamp standard, located in the center of the Market Place, dates from around 1890. It is made of cast iron and stands on a stone plinth. The lamp features a high moulded base with ribs at the cardinal points, which supports a raised pedestal. From this pedestal rises a tall column made up of clustered shafts, some of which are twisted, topped with a moulded capital. The upper shaft resembles a fleche and carries pendant lamps on curved brackets that are decorated with scrollwork. At the top, there is a central openwork finial. The casting of this lamp standard was completed at Smith's Glasgow foundry.
