Description
No. 16 Market Place is a former house that has been converted into shop premises, and it may have been used for industrial purposes at one time. This building dates from the early 18th century and features Flemish bond brickwork with blue headers and a plain tiled roof.
The exterior is three storeys high and has a seven-window range divided into three and four bays. There is a central doorway with an overlight, which is sheltered by a canopy hood supported by scrolled brackets. To the sides of the doorway are three iron-framed windows with painted flat-arched stone heads. On the left side, there is an inserted shop front that is mainly from the late 20th century, although some beaded moulding of the fascia may date back to a late 19th-century front. The upper windows are also iron-framed, featuring small panes and small central opening lights, with flat-arched brick heads and painted stone cills. The attic storey has three similar windows. The gable is coped with a moulded kneeler on the right side. There is a stack on the left-hand gable and a truncated axial stack to the right of the doorway. The interior has not been inspected.
