Description
No. 12 Market Place is a house that has been converted into a shop. It likely dates back to the early 18th century but was altered and refaced in the late 19th century. The exterior features lined out stucco over brick with a plain-tiled roof. The building has three storeys and a two-window range, with a curved corner facing Derby Street. The late 20th-century shop front is present, along with two 16-pane sash windows above it, and 8-pane sashes in the attic storey, all with painted stone cills. There is a moulded wood eaves cornice and lead rainwater goods. The roof curves around the corner and includes a similar 16-pane sash window. Additionally, there is a 12-pane sash window in the gabled return to Derby Street. The roof line is asymmetrical, showing clear signs that the roof was raised on the Market Place side to add a full upper storey, likely in the early 19th century. A stack remains on the left-hand gable only. The interior has not been inspected.
