Description
No. 11 Market Place is a public house, now a betting shop, built around 1870 by William Sugden. The building is constructed of brick and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys high and features a single-window range with an additional window range over a rear passage entry to the left. The ground floor is stuccoed and includes a doorway and two round-arched windows to the right, all of which have continuous hoodmoulding and are separated by slim engaged shafts that spring from moulded footings. Above, there is an arcaded three-light round-arched window. The upper storey has a similar two-light window with a projecting cill supported by brackets. The left-hand bay contains a segmentally-arched passage entry, with a single round-arched window on each floor above it. The building also features a moulded and painted plaster eaves cornice and overhanging eaves, along with a gable end stack. Although the interior has not been inspected, this building occupies a prominent position in the Market Place and is a notable example of its type.
