Description
21 and 22 Market Place is a pair of houses that have been converted into shops with accommodation above. They date from the mid-18th century and are faced in brick with stone dressings, while the side walls and the parallel rear range are made of coursed and squared rubble. The roofs are plain-tiled.
The exterior features three storeys and a six-window range facing the street, along with a parallel rear wing. There are inserted shop fronts, and a dentilled fascia that spans the passage entry on the left and the cellar entry on the right, supported by consoles likely from the late 19th century. The upper floors have 12-pane sash windows with flat-arched gauged brick heads and stone cills. The building has stone angle quoins, a string course between the storeys, and a moulded eaves cornice. The rear wing has a three-window range with a central stair window flanked by 16-pane sash windows on the upper floors, along with an inserted doorway and a canted bay window below. The interior has not been inspected.
