Description
Double Passages is a house that was originally a pair of cottages located at the rear of Nos 65-67 North Street in Ashburton. It is bordered by the River Ashburn to the west and is likely from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble and features a hipped slated roof. There are two large stone rubble chimneys on the west wall and two more on the north wall.
The plan of the building is L-shaped, with the main range running east to west and a wing projecting at the west end of the south side. The structure has three storeys, with the lowest being a basement. The main range is two windows wide, and there is one window in the cross-wing. The main range has three large segmental-headed openings, which now include two windows and a door facing south. The south side has plastic window frames, while the north side features wooden casements with glazing bars.
No 69B and 69C North Street, which were previously listed with this building, are now listed with Nos 69-69A North Street.
