Description

White's Farm is a former farmhouse dating from the 17th century, constructed in two phases. It features square-panelled timber framing with rendered infill set on a limestone rubble plinth, topped with a stone slate roof. The building has a 'T'-shaped plan and is 1½ storeys high.

The north-facing elevation includes, from left to right, a 2-light casement window with stanchion bars, a single-light casement, and a 4-light casement window featuring several bull's-eye glass panes. There is a tall timber-framed eaves dormer with ovolo-moulded oak mullions and transom, along with a jettied gable. The west-facing gable end has a blocked doorway and two 2-light wooden casements, one of which also has bull's-eye glass panes. Above these is a small 2-light wooden casement with an early fleur-de-lys shaped fastening. To the right of the projecting gable is a lean-to porch with a plank door.

At right angles to the main structure, there is a range that includes, from left to right, a 3-light casement with an early plank shutter, a 20th-century cross window, and a 3-light timber-framed eaves dormer above with a jettied gable. A similar 3-light eaves dormer is located on the east side. The building has an axial stack.

Inside, the farmhouse features an open fireplace with a bressumer and a compass drawn rosette, beams with deep flat chamfers and moulded stops, several old plank doors with thumb latches, and some 17th-century sunken panelling upstairs. White's Farm is noted as a particularly good and relatively unaltered example of a farmhouse from this period.
