Description
The Holt is a detached house dated and initialled 'J.P./1884' at the apex of the right-hand dormer. It features later 19th century and 20th century extensions to the rear and was designed by Joseph Peart. The building is constructed from random roughly coursed squared and dressed limestone, with dressed stone quoins and a thin stone slate roof. It has coursed squared and dressed limestone stacks with ashlar quoins. The house has a rectangular plan, possibly with later extensions at right angles to the rear, and consists of two storeys, a cellar, and an attic.
On the ground floor, there is one 3-light and one 2-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casement window, both with stopped hoods. The first floor features round-headed windows that match the ground floor. A large circular window with a stopped hood is situated between these. The attic has gablets with similar 2-light windows and moulded hoods. The central entrance is a studded plank door with fillets, set within a round-headed dressed stone surround, flanked by tall round-headed lights, and topped with a stopped hood. At the rear, there is a very tall dormer with a lion finial. The building has stepped coping and roll-cross saddles, as well as projecting gable-end stacks. The interior has not been inspected. Originally, the house was known as Pound House.
