Description

The barn at Hill House Farm, dating from the early 18th century, features an attached stable that was enlarged in the 19th century. It is constructed from random and coursed rubble limestone and has a replacement concrete tile roof. The barn consists of three bays, while the stable includes a loft in a cross wing to the north.

On the east side, the barn is half-timbered with rubble infill between the posts, which have square vents. There is a large central doorway, although the doors are missing. The stable to the right has a gable that was raised in the 19th century, featuring seven rows of pigeon holes in the apex, as well as a stable door and a loft door with deep stone lintels. An oval owl hole is situated above another doorway to the right.

The north side has a single 20th-century metal casement window and two small low-level recesses. The west side shows the gable of the stable on the left, which has a small-paned casement and a doorway with a deep stone lintel, both grouped beneath a hood mould. There is also a small pitching hole and a gable slit vent, along with an oval owl hole above a louvred opening to the left. The barn to the right mirrors the east side.

The south side features a gable end with exposed purlin ends and a slit vent. Inside, the barn has a tie beam truss roof from the 18th century, and there is a continuous loft in the stable.
