Description
Horsepools House and North Horsepools is a detached house, originally a pair, dating to the mid to late 19th century. It is now divided into two separate dwellings. The house is constructed of limestone ashlar with a beaver-tail tile roof to coped gables. It has a long rectangular plan, with the gable on the right slightly set forward, and later additions to the back left. The building is two storeys and has an attic, originally with four plus one windows.
The ground floor features a 12-pane sash window, followed by a contemporary porch with an arched opening and a coped gable covered with beaver-tail tiles. This porch contains a 19th-century door. Further ground floor windows include two 12-pane sashes and a canted bay with plate glass sashes and a hipped tiled roof. The first floor has three 12-pane sashes with glazing bars, and a small glazed slit window in the right gable. The left gable return has two sash windows without bars, a later porch now blocked with a 12-pane sash, and beyond that, another porch and a 16-pane sash window.
The property has three ashlar chimney stacks, located on the left gable, at the wing junction, and at the right end, with cills to the skirts and moulded capping details. The interior has not been inspected. Horsepools House and North Horsepools is part of a grand pair alongside Little Horsepools, and has undergone little alteration when viewed from the road.
