Description
The Church of St John the Baptist is an Anglican parish church built in 1865 by S W Daukes. It is constructed from rock-faced limestone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof with coped gables topped by three crosses. The church comprises a nave, a south aisle, a chancel, an organ chamber, and a north porch that includes an octagonal tower and a squat stone spire. The roof slopes down towards the aisle. The windows are generally foiled lancets, arranged in pairs with plate tracery in the north and south walls and at the west end, while the east end features triple lancets with plate tracery. Inside, there is a three-bay arcade, original fittings, plank doors with strap hinges, and a decorative diagonal grille at the outer porch. Although it is a rather basic building, it is quite prominent and stands high in the landscape.
