Description
Edge Hill Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, dated 1664 over the doorway. It is constructed of coursed and squared limestone with a stone slate roof featuring coped gables, although the back slope of the lower extension on the left has some concrete slate. The building follows a lobby entrance plan and has a large central double stack of ridge, with the extension set back to the left and a porch in the re-entrant.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic and basement, and features one window on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The main building has three-light and two-light plain stone chamfer-mullion casements flanking a plank door under a deep lintel, all with stopped hoods. On the first floor, there are two similar two-light casements and a small oculus in a square setting above the door. To the left, there is a two-light stone mullioned casement above a three-light casement, both with stopped hoods, and a 20th-century plank door leading to the new porch. The right gable has a two-light casement above a three-light casement, all with stopped hoods, and a door leading to the basement. The left gable features a two-light casement, partially concealed by a later extension. At the rear, there is a stair turret with small leaded single lights. The interior has not been inspected, but the right-hand room is noted to have good 18th-century fielded panel shutters.
