Description

PAINSWICK EDGE SO 80 NE 5/64 Edge Hill Farmhouse 21.10.55 II Not to be confused with Edge Farmhouse (q.v.). Farmhouse. Dated 1664 (not 1604 as former list) over doorway. Coursed and squared limestone, stone slate roof to coped gables, but some concrete slate to back slope of lower extension, left. Lobby entrance plan, with large central double stack of ridge, extension set back to left, with porch in re-entrant. Two storeys, attic and basement; 1 + 2 windows. Main building has 3-light and 2-light plain stone chamfer- mullion casements flanking plank door under deep lintel, all with stopped hoods; at first floor are two 2-light similar casements, and a small oculus in square setting over the door. To the left a 2-light stone mullioned casement over 3-light with stopped hood, and a C20 plank door to new porch. Gable, right, has 2, over 2, over 3-light casement, all with stopped hoods and a door to base- ment. Gable left has 2-light casement, part concealed by later extension. At rear is a stair turret with small leaded single lights. Interior not inspected, but right-hand room has good C18 fielded panel shutters.
