Description

Jenkins Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse, significantly damaged by lightning in 1962. It is constructed of squared and coursed limestone with concrete tile roofing. The building is narrow, featuring a lobby entry positioned off-centre to the right of a large chimney stack, now in concrete block, and with a left-hand extension set at a slightly lower ridge level, alongside a single-storey lean-to. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, punctuated by widely spaced windows. Ground-floor windows include two single-light openings and one two-light stone chamfered mullion casement with stopped hoods. The first floor has two two-light wooden casements and a two-light stone chamfer mullion casement. The extended section incorporates various 19th-century windows. Two small gabled two-light casement dormers are present. A stone porch with a lean-to tile roof stands centrally, featuring a small bulls-eye window to the front and a 20th-century glazed door on the left return, which conceals the original entry. The rear elevation exhibits a variety of widely spaced windows, including a three-light moulded wood casement at first floor, a two-light recessed chamfered stone mullioned casement with a stopped hood low to the left, and a blocked opening indicating a former cellar. The east gable features a recessed chamfered two-light window with a stopped hood and a 20th-century door. Inside, stone mullioned windows are found at each level of the original west gable. An extension contains a peaked-head doorway. The interior features deep-chamfer transverse beams, two spiral stone staircases that transition to wood on the first and second floors, A-frame roofs with heavy principals approximately 400 mm x 230 mm, and one major bressummer fireplace with stone cheeks.
