Description
Chapel Cottage is a house, originally two dwellings, dating back to the 18th century with some 19th-century alterations. The construction utilizes squared and coursed limestone with a concrete tile roof. It is two stories high with an attic, and features a two-window front on the left and a four-window front on the right. The left gable faces the street. The left half has two 2-light casement windows from the 19th century with plain chamfer stone surrounds. A lower section is attached to the gable, and a 20th-century glazed porch now occupies the position of a former doorway. Two 20th-century gabled dormers have been added to the roof. The right half, with a common roof ridge, has recessed-chamfered 18th-century stone casement windows. At ground floor, these comprise a 2-light and a 3-light window, both with stopped hoods, flanking a 20th-century glazed door. Above are a 1-light and a 2-light window, without hoods. The gable stacks have been rebuilt. Inside, open bressummer fireplaces are present on both the ground and first floors, along with some chamfered beams, including at least one brought in from another location. A stone staircase leads to the attic. The roof of the left half is supported by pegged cruck-like elements. A single 2-light chamfer casement is located at the rear. A large stone tank is built into the front wall.
