Description

Rookery Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, dated 1659, situated on Church Street, Silverstone. It is constructed from roughly shaped limestone rubble with a slate roof and brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape. The front range of the farmhouse features a 6-panel door set within a moulded wooden surround, under a timber lintel and a rustic porch. A 20th-century bay window is located to the right, and a 3-light casement window sits to the left, both also with timber lintels. First-floor windows echo this design. The return wing has a 20th-century bay window facing the gable end and a 3-light casement window on the first floor, with a 2-light casement in the attic. A datestone inscribed "RR 1659" is positioned between the attic and first-floor casements. The farmhouse is finished with quoins and stone-coped gables featuring kneelers. A single-storey extension adjoins the left side. Inside, the farmhouse retains several original features, including ogee stop-chamfered spine beams, an open fireplace with a cambered, chamfered bressumer, a fitted corner cupboard with shaped shelves and panelled doors using H hinges, a staircase with slender turned balusters, and a collar-truss roof with clasped principals.
