Description

Home Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, dated 1818, situated on the west side of Silverstone High Street. The house is constructed of limestone ashlar and coursed squared limestone with ironstone dressings, topped by a slate roof, and features brick end and ridge stacks. It has a three-unit plan and a symmetrical 5-window facade. A four-panel door is located to the right of centre, set within a panelled reveal, ornamental overlight, and pilastered stone doorcase. Sixteen-pane sash windows are positioned on either side of the doorway. A similar part-glazed door is to the left of centre, with a twelve-pane sash window to the right. A rendered pilaster strip defines the left end bay, which is built of coursed squared stone and has tripartite sashes to both the ground and first floors, with twelve-pane sashes to the remaining first floor windows. All windows have stone sills, flat-arched heads, and keyblocks. The eaves are coved and plastered, and a datestone in the left gable is inscribed TB/1818. The initials TB purportedly refer to Thomas Barford. Inside, there is an open-well staircase with stick balusters and a ramped mahogany handrail. A stone fireplace is present in the kitchen and the cellar. The right-hand room contains fitted shelving and was formerly used as a shop.
