Description
This mid-18th century lodge was altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of squared limestone, with a plain tile roof featuring ornamental ridge tiles and brick end stacks. The lodge has a two-unit plan, a basement/cellar, an attic, and a single storey. A central 20th-century door, set within a moulded wood surround with a flat-arched head and a straight hood supported by carved stone brackets, is flanked by 12-pane sash windows, also with flat-arched heads. A plinth runs along the base, and wide pilaster strips mark the corners, featuring blank panels. There are additional blank panels above the door and windows. Two gabled dormers light the attic space. The basement has exterior access to the left. Originally one of a pair of lodges, it marked the entrance to a drive that formerly led south toward Stowe House, the historic seat of the Dukes of Buckingham.
