Description
No. 7 High Street is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with a plain tile roof and brick end stacks. The house features a two-unit central staircase plan and is two storeys high with an attic, presenting a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a six-panel part-glazed door, which is hinged in the middle and set in a moulded wood frame, topped with a flat-arched head and a trellis porch. The ground and first floors have 12-pane sash windows; those on the ground floor have flat-arched heads, while those on the first floor are fitted with timber lintels. The building has a plinth and stone eaves.
Inside, the house boasts stone flagged floors and a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters for the ground and first floor flights, while the attic flight features splat balusters. There is a late 18th-century painted wood chimneypiece with ornamental detail, an open fireplace in the kitchen with a chamfered bressumer, and spine beams, mostly boxed, in the upper rooms. Additionally, there are fitted cupboards with shaped shelves.
