Description

Grant House is a late 16th-century detached house that was formerly part of a larger structure. It is built from random rubble and ashlar limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a plain tile roof. The house is two stories high with an attic.

On the north front, there is a large projecting lateral chimney stack to the right of the center, which has paired shafts and moulded caps. The fenestration consists of three windows, all of which are two-light recessed ovolo mullioned casements, except for a single ground floor window that is a 4-centred arched lancet with a deep hood, located to the right of the chimney. There is also a blocked central doorway above which is another blocked window with a cavetto moulded surround.

The west side features a gable with a three-light ovolo moulded casement on the ground floor and a two-light restored recessed chamfered window on the upper floor and attic, all with hood moulds. The east side has been altered, now featuring a doorway with a moulded lintel and a 20th-century door, as well as a 20th-century rebuilt ridge-mounted chimney.

On the south side, there is a central projecting gable with a two-light window above a three-light ovolo moulded mullioned casement, with a sundial positioned between them. A small ground floor slit window is located on the east side of the gabled projection, and to the left, there are three-light cavetto moulded casements on each floor, with a hood over the ground floor window.

The interior has not been inspected. Grant House remains a fragment of what was once a much larger house.
