Description
The stable block, located approximately 10 meters north of Edge Farmhouse, dates from around the early 17th century but has been largely rebuilt in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed and squared limestone with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and is partly built into the slope of the land.
On the ground floor, there is a plank door on the far left with a chamfered surround and a flat Tudor head, along with a similar central opening. To the right, there is a blocked opening and three small single lights, with the extreme right light leading to a stair, which is also blocked. The first floor features two single lights in chamfered surrounds. The left side of the building, facing the farmhouse, shows a line indicating a 19th-century roof raising, with a gable slit above a two-light chamfered-mullion casement window on the first floor.
At the back of the stable block, there is a central loading door accessed by stone steps, along with one single light and one blocked opening. Some marlstone in the wall likely originates from the earliest building phase. The right gable includes pigeon holes above a single light chamfered opening on the first floor, and a change in the roof profile is noticeable. Inside, there is a five-bay queen post roof with a planked central truss division, two stone dividing walls at the ground floor, and heavy chamfered beams, along with some stalling.
