Description
Stark Hill Cottage is a small detached cottage located on Painswick Edge, dating from the early 18th century with some modifications from the 20th century. It is constructed of rubble limestone and features a slate roof with coped gables and cross-roll saddles. The cottage is 2½ storeys tall and has three windows, with part of the structure built directly off the rock at the right-hand end.
The entrance front includes a two-light stone casement window and two small stair lights, along with a 20th-century lean-to porch that has a door and a large dormer window. The opposite front features a ground floor with a two-light recessed chamfer casement window beneath a stopped hood, a six-panel flush door set in a chamfered surround with a deep plain lintel and hood, and a 20th-century door in a former window opening. On the first floor, there are two groups of windows: a two-light recessed chamfer window with hoods and two roof laylights.
The left gable has a series of three two-over-two-light recessed chamfered mullion windows with hoods, similar to those on the right gable. A central ashlar stack is present. The interior has not been seen.
