Description
This is a barn dating from the 18th century, located approximately 40 meters west of Melksham Court. It is constructed from squared and coursed marlstone and features a stone slate roof. The barn has a large gabled structure with a mid-20th century flat-roofed extension added to the former carriage opening on the west side. There are no buttresses, and on the east side, there is a gabled brick extension in a similar position, which is likely from the early 19th century. This east extension includes an ogee-headed light in the gable and a large conch-arch setting for a round pool at ground floor level. On the left end of the east side, there is an early 20th century door, and to the right of the projecting gable, there are three glazed slits. The interior was restructured in the mid-20th century to serve as a ballroom with a gallery. This barn is part of a group that includes Melksham Court and the adjacent Mill.
