Description

Overend Cottage and Overend House are a pair of semi-detached dwellings dating from the 17th century. They are constructed of squared and coursed marlstone with a concrete tile roof. Overend Cottage has a projecting stair turret at the rear, opposite the front entrance. Overend House is situated at a lower level than the Cottage, although the roofline of Overend House has been raised at some point. Each gable, and the party wall, contain stacks.

The two houses have two storeys and feature a 3+1 window arrangement. Most windows are 3-light wood casements with two horizontal glazing bars, set beneath wooden lintols. To the right of each entrance door is a small, 19th-century canted bay window with hipped roofs. On the ground floor, the window on the left end of Overend Cottage is a standard 3-light design, placed beneath a timber lintol. Originally, this window covered a 4 or 5-light opening, evidenced by a moulded stopped drip stone. The central door of Overend Cottage is a modern entrance, accessed by flat wooden brackets, and is a 19th-century 4-panel design, partly glazed, within a heavy frame, positioned off-centre to the left. Overend House features an entrance door to the lower portion of the property, which may have originally been part of a single-storey stable.
