War memorial. 1919 by Sidney Barnsley. Limestone. Octagonal stepped base to high octagonal pedestal. Octagonal shaft with Celtic cross. Delicate floral carving to cross. Fine carved inscription in serif capitals on pedestal, carried round all sides. 'IN MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR & AS A THANKSGIVING TO GOD FOR THEIR COMRADES WHOSE LIVES WERE SPARED. THIS CROSS IN GRATITUDE WAS SET UP BY THEIR FELLOW TOWNSMEN AD 1919'. The whole memorial is to a simple, although elegantly proportioned, design typical of Barnsley's furniture. (Illustrated in M.
