Description

The war memorial was erected in 1920. It is constructed of stone and takes the form of a freestanding cross. The memorial stands on a two-stepped, octagonal base, rising to an octagonal plinth and shaft. The shaft is topped by a moulded capital featuring rose details, in turn surmounted by a cross fleurie. The plinth has decorative gothic detailing, including recessed corners designed to resemble buttresses, with ogee-arched tracery incorporating trefoils. The names of those who fell in conflict are inscribed within the moulded panels of the plinth. The north face carries the inscription "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THOSE CONNECTED WITH/ THIS CHURCH AND PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN/ THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918/ R.I.P./ THEY WERE A WALL UNTO US/ BOTH BY NIGHT AND DAY," followed by the inscription "1939-1945 (NAMES)."
