Description

The Priory is a town house located on High Street in Minchinhampton, dating from around 1740, with internal refitting that occurred around 1830. At the time of listing, it was being used as a shop. The building features coursed and square limestone, partially roughcast rendered, with rendered chimneys and a stone slate roof, while the rear has a concrete tile roof. It is two stories high, with a cellar and attic, and has a double pile plan.

The front of the building has five windows that are irregularly spaced and angled due to settlement. There is a central segmental arched doorway with a six-panel door. To the left, there are two 20-pane sash windows, and to the right, two 15-pane sash windows, all with timber surrounds that include a lozenge above each window. The upper floor has 12-pane segmental arched sashes with a plain sill band, all featuring thick glazing bars. The gable end chimneys on the front range have been cut down.

At the rear, there is a mix of segmental arched casements and sashes, with part of the elevation projecting slightly and featuring an angled wall. An attached shed is noted but is not of special interest.

Inside, the principal rooms have timber fireplaces with enriched cornices. The doorways are adorned with reeded architraves and thin cornices. The cellar is stone vaulted and includes a small ashlar lock-up in one corner.
