Description
The Ram Inn is an inn that dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from random rubble limestone, with some sections in red brick, and features ashlar and brick chimneys. The roof is made of stone slate. The building is a two-storey rectangular block with a two-storey addition on the northwest side, and outbuildings that create a courtyard to the southwest.
On the northeast side, there are two windows, which were likely originally situated below two gables. This side features three original chamfered mullioned two-light casements, while the ground floor has a replacement six-pane sash window. The 18th-century hipped roof is also visible. The return elevation to the right has two casements set in openings with moulded architraves and flat dripstones above. The lower addition, built in brick and with a hipped roof, contains mainly 20th-century casements.
On the southeast side, there is a full gable with a blocked attic window, and a low-level blocked three-light casement that is partially obscured by the raising of the road level. Above this, there is an eaves-mounted chimney with a plain cap. The interior has not been inspected. The Ram Inn has been recorded as an inn since 1718 and holds an important position next to the Market House.
