Description
White Lion House is a detached house located in Minchinhampton Market Square. It dates from the mid 17th century, with an early 18th century rear wing and early 19th century rebuilding. The building is constructed from random and coursed rubble limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof.
The house is three storeys tall, with a two-storey rear wing. The front of the house was probably originally two storeys but has been raised in height. It has scattered timber casements with timber lintels. The central doorway has a timber lintel and a 20th-century plank door. There are gable end chimneys with plain caps.
On the southwest side, which faces Friday Street, there are grouped casements under hoodmoulds, two stone cross windows on the upper floor, and a small single-light window to the left. The ground floor originally had similar windows, but these have been altered to include a doorway and a timber casement. There is a chimney at the end of the wing with a moulded cap. The building was formerly an inn.
