Description

The Sidney Monument is a chest tomb located about 1.5 meters north of the pair of Pick Monuments in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Berkeley. It commemorates James Sidney, who died in 1787, and Elizabeth Humphris, who died in 1801. The tomb is made of limestone and features a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping on its base. It has gadrooned quarter balusters, with floral designs on the columns at the ends. To the west, there is a suspended wreath, and to the east, an urn. The sides of the tomb are adorned with large raised ovals that have rosettes in the spandrels.
