Description

This is an unidentified chest tomb located about 3 meters north of the Smith Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin. It dates from the late 17th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a flat top with moulded capping and lacks a visible plinth. Its sides have panelled relief corner piers and a central strip, with plain panels. The southeast corner of the top has the initials "HAL" carved into it, while the northwest corner is secured by an iron staple. At the time of the survey in November 1984, the tomb was breaking up and partially overgrown.
