Description

The Smith Monument is an early 19th-century chest tomb located about 11 meters north of the north-east pier of the porch in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. The earliest decipherable inscription on the monument dates to 1832. It is made of limestone and features a flat top with a moulded capping and a plain plinth at the base. The ends of the tomb are plain, while the sides have sunk oval panels. At the time of the survey in November 1984, the monument was partially overgrown.
