Description

The Shrubs and the cottage adjoining to the north are two cottages that were probably originally one house, dating from the early 17th century. The rear of The Shrubs and the front of the adjoining cottage feature partly square panel timber-framing with brick infill, while the rest is constructed in brick or possibly brick-faced and painted. The building has a stone plinth and a main range topped with a pantile roof. The cross wing of The Shrubs has a half-hipped roof covered with double Roman tiles, and there is a large brick ridge stack on the main section along with a lateral brick stack on the right-hand return. The structure includes a single range with a rear lean-to and a cross range to the right, which has a 20th-century lean-to on its right-hand return. It is a single storey with an attic, featuring two raking dormers on the main range and three 20th-century casement windows below, with a larger window on the right side of The Shrubs. This section also has 20th-century fenestration under cambered heads on the cross wing. There is a door to the adjoining cottage on the left-hand return. The interior is not accessible but may have features of interest.
