Description

The Dowdewell Monument is a chest tomb located about 3 meters southeast of the Mary Butt Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Nicholas. It commemorates the Dowdeswell family, with the earliest date being Samuel in 1807. The tomb is constructed from both limestone and sandstone. It features a flat top, a moulded plinth, and capping on a large base, with slightly indented ends that have raised panels. The sandstone sides display large plain raised ovals set against a reeded background.
