Description

The Beard and Bonner Monuments are located about 1.5 meters east of the Samuell Beard Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Nicholas in Standish Village. The chest tomb for Samuel Beard dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, while the pedestal tomb for Bonner is from around 1750 to 1759. Both monuments are made of limestone.

The Beard monument features a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping, and has compressed lyre ends decorated with strapwork. The side panels are plain and recessed, with flanking strips that are carved with lozenges. At the time of the survey in January 1986, this tomb was noted to be sinking to the north.

The Bonner monument is very large and has a moulded cap with a concave section that rises to a gadrooned top, along with additional side pieces. It also has a moulded plinth and capping on the base, with indented ends and a frieze, all elaborately carved in high relief and sinking to the south.
