Description

The Chamberlayne, Beard, and two unidentified monuments are located about 2 meters north of the porch in the churchyard of the Church of St. Nicholas in Standish Village. The group includes a pedestal tomb for Joseph Chamberlayne, dated 1820, a coffin tomb for Elizabeth Beard from 1639, and two headstones to the west, likely from the early 18th century. The Chamberlayne tomb is made of sandstone, while the others are crafted from limestone. The pedestal tomb features a moulded convex cap on the base, a moulded plinth, and a horizontal reeded frieze in limestone, with plain recessed ovals on each face and a shallow urn relief on the west side. The Beard coffin slab is a plain design with an incised edge inscription. The two headstones are adorned with cherubs' heads and wings, along with floral decorations and drapery drops on the sides.
