Description

The Dangerfield and Unidentified Monument is located about 2 meters northeast of the Henry Butt Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Nicholas in Standish. This Grade II chest tomb, which is unidentified, dates from the mid-18th century, while the pedestal tomb commemorates George Dangerfield and dates to 1794.

The chest tomb is made of limestone and features a flat top with a moulded capping and a large plinth. Its lyre ends are very eroded and include floral returns and end cartouches. The south side has a large foliage surround cartouche, while the north side displays a fielded rectangular panel with flanking reliefs.

The pedestal tomb is constructed from sandstone and has a tall concave moulded cap with a convex top, which is above a roll moulding and a small finial. It features plain capping, a moulded plinth at the base, and half-round ends with a fluted frieze. An urn is positioned to the east and flowers to the west, with moulded raised oval panels and rosette spandrels on both the north and south sides.
