Description

The Parslow Monument is a chest tomb located about 5.5 meters northeast of the Jones Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin. It commemorates William Laurence Parslow, who died in 1827, and features an earlier inscription that is now indecipherable and dated to the 1790s. The monument is made of limestone and has a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping on a tooled base, along with indented corners. The end panels are adorned with a fluted frieze that includes rosettes and large raised oval panels decorated with draped wreaths and flaming torch reliefs on the returns. The sides of the tomb also feature large horizontal ovals with draped wreaths and a rosette entwined in a wreath above.
