10/14 Methodist Chapel

GV II

Methodist Chapel; about 1814: Flemish-bond brickwork, ashlar quoins, rubble stone plinth: rear gable rendered, apparently on stone: tiled roof. 3 windows long, gable to road. Gable plain: central gabled, single-storey porch, late C19 addition: blue brick plinth, pointed head to boarded door, blue-brick voussoirs, stone springers and keystone. Small lancet window in sides of porch, also on left in main gable: each wooden frame, voussoirs and keystone over doorway. Above porch a central projection in gable rises to just short of ridge: may be a former chimney. Right return 2 rows of windows, semi-circular heads, brick-on-edge voussoirs, timber mullion and transom, one top-hung iron casement, leaded lights. Central window in lower row originally a doorway. Late C19 leanto on left return probably built as Sunday School: C20 extensions at rear. Interior flat ceiling, gallery across road gable, with simply- panelled front, supported 2 C20 iron columns: access by dogleg stair. Forms group with Birdwood House opposite (q.v.).
