Description
Ley Court is a detached house built in the mid-19th century. It features an ashlar plinth, door and window surrounds, and is constructed from red brick in English bond, topped with a tiled roof. The house has a symmetrical three-window front with a double rear wing, creating a U-shaped roof, and consists of two storeys plus attics.
The front of the house has a full-height projecting center with a gable that contains the front door. The door is boarded and studded, set under a four-centred arch, with pointed heads to the sidelights that have sunk spandrels. There is a flat hoodmould above the door, with a blue brick-on-edge relieving arch specifically for the door. On either side of the door, there are three-light mullion and transom windows with leaded lights and iron opening casements, all under hoodmoulds and blue-brick relieving arches.
A moulded string runs at the first-floor window sill level. The first floor features windows similar to those on the ground floor, with a three-light window in the center and two single-light windows on each side. In the gable, there is a single-light window with carved bargeboards. The roof tiles are plain and club, creating banding, and there are crested ridge tiles. A chimney is set on the ridge to the left of center, with flues positioned diagonally.
On the left return, the front projects as a gable, resembling the front but with a rectangular bay window on the ground floor that has a stone roof, a two-light window on the first floor, and a single-light window in the gable. Beyond this, there is a three-light window on the ground floor, a two-light window on the first floor, and a gabled dormer with a two-light casement window and carved bargeboards in the attic. Additional chimneys are located on the left gable and behind the front block, similar to the front chimney. A timber pendant is present on the bargeboards at the ridge.
